It’s imperative that a human repeated insult patch test (HRIPT or RIPT test) is conducted before launching a product that will come into contact with the skin.

Whether you plan on producing cosmetics or personal care products, when operating in the field of skin care, product testing is a necessary part of the process.

CPT℠ is committed to both our clients and their consumers. By performing clinical trials, a repeated insult patch test can help determine any potential irritation or sensitization issues, minimizing the risk of potential reactions for the consumer and ensuring our clients’ success.

Our HRIPT/RIPT Capabilities

Using our specialized departments and well-respected lab facility, we test a wide range of products at CPT℠. Whether you want to remove chemicals of concern, reformulate your product, meet labeling requirements or achieve a specific result within a clinical trial, examples of products that can be subjected to a HRIPT test include, but are not limited to:

Self-Perceived Sensitive Skin Panels

Sensitive Skin is a syndrome defined by the occurrence of unpleasant sensations in response to stimuli, that would normally not provoke such a response in the general population. Those sensations can be stinging, burning, pain, tingling or other sensations. Sensitive skin can appear normal, or be accompanied by erythema, and can affect all parts of the body. Symptoms may occur as quickly as one hour when exposed to the triggering stimuli, and may persist for minutes, or even hours, but are not caused by any skin disease.

A Repeated Insult Patch Test using subjects who have self-perceived sensitive skin (SPSS), can be used to identify products which trigger the sensations noted above. With CPT SPSS Verify℠ each subject must complete a questionnaire developed specifically to qualify the subject for this test. This qualification process is documented each time that the subject participates in a SPSS RIPT. This questionnaire is an assessment tool to identify those subjects which are presently sensitive to different types of stimuli such as soaps, cosmetic products, jewelry, environmental conditions etc., so that they are screened properly to participate.

RIPTs using self-perceived sensitive skin subjects can be generated using 50, 100 or 200 subjects, depending upon the client’s criteria for their product’s risk assessment. These panels can also be used in support of attaining the National Eczema Association’s Seal of Acceptance.
